CENTRAL CITY – Carolyn Sue (Armour) Todd, 75, of Central City, passed away on Thursday, July 18th, 2024, after a tough-fought battle with glioblastoma.
Born on September 30th, 1948, to Vernon Lee Armour and Dorothy Nell (Nelson) Armour, Sue graduated from Muhlenberg Central High School and met her husband at the Central City Christmas Parade the following winter. She married Paul Todd in 1968. After marrying, Sue and Paul spent time in North Carolina during his military service and returned to Central City, where they made their forever home on Prince Street. Sue and Paul enjoyed archery, bowling, weekly trips to the flea market, and caring for their dogs. They could often be found at home on their porch, enjoying watching the birds and squirrels, admiring the flowers they would plant, and inviting conversation with those who stopped by to visit. Sitting on her porch, you often heard stories of their family trips to Disney or the Smokey Mountains. In her home, everyone was welcome.
Sue is the loving and devoted mother of Heather Todd (Gary) of Central City. She often shared that she cherished her role as a mother and was very proud of her daughter. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara Baugh of Indianapolis; a brother, Earl (Penny) Armour of South Carrollton; and a brother, Danny (Lisa) Armour of Central City. Also surviving Sue is a brother-in-law, Carl (Linda) Todd of Evansville, and four sisters-in-law, Debbie Armour of Central City, Susan Lott of Cleaton, Kathy (Darrell) Buxton of Henderson, and Barbara Little of Powderly.
As an avid homemaker and family matriarch, Sue’s hands were rarely still; making blankets and flower arrangements, cooking, hosting family meals, and helping in the kitchen at Cherry Hill Church all suited her servant’s heart. Sue would tell everyone her biggest blessing was the role caring for the youngest family members. Sue especially adored her position as “Nanny” or “Nan” to an entire generation of her loved ones. The role as a loving grandmother and caregiver to her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces was her calling. She touched the lives and provided unconditional love to all. Sue devoted her entire life to her family.
Preceding Sue in death are her father and mother, her brothers Jimmie Armour, Bobby Armour, and Donnie Armour, and a brother-in-law, Larry Baugh. Sue was also preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Franklin Pierce Todd and Eva Spinks Todd, her stepmother-in-law Eula Mae Todd, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from her Todd family: Jim (Kay) Todd, Ben (Netty Sue) Todd, Virginia (Doug) Rice, Dave (Peggy) Todd, Felix (Shirley) Todd, Peggy (Jimmy) Simmons, Tuzie (Alvin) Hinton, Dan (Jean) Todd, Fred (Jean) Todd, Taylor (Agnes) Todd, Tom (Brenda) Todd, Mack (Karen) Todd, John Riley, Jo Nell Riley, Helen Ruth Riley Armour, and Earl Riley.
Sue’s strength was unwavering until God called her home. She was the heart and soul of the Armour family, and her absence will be deeply felt. Each family member will always cherish the memories shared with her.
