GREENVILLE – Carol Jane Mitchell Pearson, 85, of Greenville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 9:30AM at her home, after a 16 year battle with Alzheimer’s. Carol was born March 17, 1939, in Muhlenberg County. She was a graduate of Hughes-Kirk Class of 1957. She married her husband, Bob, on December 22, 1956, and she loved traveling the country with him. She also loved singing in the choir and working with the youth of Leigh’s Chapel, fishing, and cooking absolutely delicious meals for her whole family and whoever else walked in the door. She was a homemaker until she and her husband bought their first grocery store in July 1969 in Brownsville, KY.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Brank Mitchell and Ruby S. Carver Mitchell; infant brother, Freddie Jewell Mitchell; and sisters, Joyce Evelyn Mitchell (Bob) Davis and Judith Dianna Mitchell (Gayle) Greenwood.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bobby Joe “Bob” Pearson; brother, Danny (Dana) Wayne Mitchell; children, Joetta Lynn (Patrick) O’Brien, Gregory Lane (Tina) Pearson, Carol Denise (Larry) Brown, and Ryan Scott (Tracey) Pearson; grandchildren, Monica Marie (Brad) Croslin, Maika Jo (Darryl) Duncan, Brittni Layne Pearson, Clay Lance (Megan) Fleming, Ian (Lily) O’Brien, and Eva Claire Pearson; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 29, 2024, at 1:00PM at Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Greenville, with Rev. Roger Wright officiating, assisted by Rev. Tony Shanks. Burial in Old Jackson Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 4-9PM at Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church and Monday from 11:00AM – 1:00PM at the church.
