CENTRAL CITY – Carla Marnita Taylor, 62, of Central City, gained her wings Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro. Carla was born December 9, 1961 in Muhlenberg County. She always wanted to be a school teacher. After graduating high school, she attended Murray State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree. She worked for the Muhlenberg County School systems for 31 years. Carla loved and served in her church, Wesley Chapel A.M.E Zion Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mable Cartwright.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, John Taylor, and three daughters, Briahna Shanice Taylor of Clarksville, TN, Adrianne (Eric) Browning of Bowling Green, KY, Mary (Brian) Scott of Louisville, KY, and one son John (Nancy) Taylor, Jr. of Calabasas, CA; one brother Jerry (Carolyn) Reed of Drakesboro, KY, one sister, Regina Reed of Drakesboro, KY; five granddaughters Payton (Deneiro) Cash of Nashville, TN, Stacia Scott of Louisville, KY, Ashtyn Browning of Bowling Green, KY, Briley Scott of Louisville, KY and Monique Ferguson of Bowling Green, KY; one niece Kellee Reed of Drakesboro, two nephews Darrin Reed of Greenville KY, and Jeremy (Sherry) Reed of Bowling Green, KY.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 1PM at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Greenville with Eulogy by Rev. Batavi Combs and Rev. Glenda McCoy officiating. Burial in West End Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11AM-1PM at the church. Online condolences may be made at the funeral home. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carla married my dad, John Taylor, and became my mom and Mi Mi to my two daughters. I loved our conversations, laughs, and travels. She was the best of the best. She attended all her granddaughters' events, including Payton's wedding last summer. God makes no mistakes - I have to keep reminding myself of this because this is difficult for me. I know in my heart she gained her wings and is in heaven looking down at us with a smile. She is happy and healthy and that makes me content. I love and miss you every day.

I am so saddened to hear of Carla’s passing. I met Carla when she was a student at Drakesboro High School. She then became a fellow teacher with me. We became good friends. She was a wonderful friend and was loved by so many. I was so blessed to have known her. Please accept my condolences. She will truly be missed.

I was saddened and shocked by the news of Carla's death. We were classroom partners at Drakesboro Elementary School and entered the title one reading program together. We shared news of our family, friends, and church affiliations readily. Please accept my condolence for your loss and may the Lord continue to bless you and guide you and surround you with people that love you and love Him as you work through the grief process over the years to come. I can remember the days we listened to music at your house. And the good time in Mr. Duke's class. We all hung out together in school, Ella Mae, JoAnne, You and me. I will never forget the good times. I apologize for not being there. Please forgive me. I love you very very much. You'll always have a place in my heart ❤️

This is an unrealistic moment. It serves as a reminder that we need to cherish our loved ones, and enjoy the moments we have with them. My cousin Carla, I will never forget the times at Murray State University, when you, Ramona and I would enjoy a pot roast you made for dinner after we came from church services. Also, not only were you my cousin, but you were my Alpha Phi Alpha little sister. I will never forget the moments growing up with you, seeing you at Sunday School/Church, Family Reunions , as well as you being an Alpha Phi Alpha little sister; we had some grand times at the Black and Gold Step Shows. Rest well my Cousin, I sure will miss you. B and G forever!

To the family of my sweet friend. Pray that God will comfort you during this time of grieving. Carla will be missed. I cherish the memories I have of her being a high school friend, and college roommate.
