Bobby Allen Perry

August 3, 1951 - December 4, 2020

CENTRAL CITY- Bobby Allen Perry, 69, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, December 4th at University of Kentucky A. B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington with his loving family surrounding him. He was born in Muhlenberg County on August 3rd, 1951 to Owen Thomas Perry and Mary Ann Moore. Bobby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He grew up in Powderly, Ky where he attended and graduated from Muhlenberg Central High School in 1970. He played baseball and basketball while in high school and if asked, he would tell you he was ” pretty good”. After graduation, he worked in the underground coal mines for 33 years before retiring in 2010. He was a proud member of the UMWA. All throughout his life he loved following the UK Wildcats and Cincinnati Reds. When his boys were younger, he coached and assisted teams in T-ball, Little League, and Babe Ruth. He was always interested in history and loved to watch war documentaries and westerns. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, and play softball in his younger years, but enjoyed lounging by the pool, grilling, and growing tomatoes and flowers in his retirement. He fought and survived serious health issues including colon and lung cancer and quadruple bypass surgery. Bobby was a quiet man who loved his family and liked nothing better than sitting down to a good meal surrounded by entire family. He will be missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen Thomas Perry and Mary Ann Moore, and brother Eddie Perry. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Rita Hocker Perry; daughter Victoria Wilson of Hopkinsville; sons, Jon-Michael (Crystal) Perry of Owensboro and Jacob (Jackie)Perry of Madisonville; brother Tommy Perry; sister Jackie (Danny) Phillips; grandchildren Allyson, Andrew, Maggie, Molly, Lilliana, Calianne, Addyson, along with several nieces and nephews. I would like to tell the entire Perry family how sorry Kathy and I are for your loss- Bobby was a great guy who always took the time to speak to me and share stories about the old days of playing sports in Muhlenberg Couty or the Wildcats- I will remember Bobby as a really good ball player and great family man who I enjoyed being around for many years! Most of all- I will remember Bobby as a friend who I was always glad to see.

So sorry to hear about Bobby, I have known him my whole life and worked with him at Highland 9. He was a great guy and fun to be around.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Bobby's passing. I know the two of you have been through very difficult health conditions for years. Your positive attitude and perseverance was a witness to all around you. I love how real your relationship was and how dedicated you two were to each other. I am lifting you and the entire family in prayer that the Lord will give you strength and comfort in days ahead. You have been a wonderful wife and caregiver for Bobby. I know you draw strength knowing you will be reunited in Heaven one day.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the family. Bobby was good baseball and basketball player, but above all he was a great person and friend. We played on the all-stars in baseball and I played against in basketball at MC when I played at Central City high. I was thinking about him a few months ago when we played, he was a star. Bobby & I go back many many years. We used to play b'ball at a neighbors yard and pretent that we were playing for UK. After graduating from high school we grew apart, but we'd run into each other and wound up talking about the good old days. R.I.P. Bobby you'll be greatly missed.

Bobby was a fine union man. He loved the UMWA. We have been friends for almost 50 years. We worked together at Alston 3 underground mine. He fought hard to help save our pensions and healthcare. Made many bus rides to help secure those promises. Many times I'm sure he did not feel like going. UMWA Local 1605 will miss his unwavering support. I will miss my friend.
