SACRAMENTO – Betty Jean “Momma Betty” Thomas, 80, of Sacramento, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born on July 8, 1935, in Sacramento, the daughter of the late Laymon and America Helm. She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of the Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She attended Western High in Owensboro, and was crowned as Ms. Western High. In 1965 she married her high school sweetheart, the late Clarence Lee Thomas Sr. Betty enjoyed dancing and listening to music, such as gospel and the songs “Happy” and “Stay with Me”. She also enjoyed fishing with her sons, spending time with her friends, and U.K. basketball. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laymon and America Helm; and her husband of 40 years, Clarence Thomas. She is survived by five sons, Jimmy (Kay) Young, Michael (Jennifer) Young, Troy (Jenny) Thomas, C.L. (Lisa) Thomas, and Randy Thomas; one beautiful daughter, Shawna Thomas; 17 grandchildren, Kenyatta, Sheena, Chasity, Mykayla, Jame’, Kaytlin, Shanan, Khiry, Sierra, Kelsey, Ashley, Amber, Ameria, Alexcia, Kinley, Madison, and Brodie; 11 great-grandchildren Malichi, Mykaylee, Alyana, Shaedon, Chris, Eryn, Elexis, Erionna, Estelle, Analiese, and Laney; six siblings, Robert (Pavlon) Helm, Rosemary Copeland, Brenda (Joe) Clyburn, Jeff Helm, Mary (Larry) Pendleton, and Laymon (Rece) Helm; and a host of nieces and nephews and very special cousins, friends, and family. Funeral services will be Friday, August 14, 2015, at 1:00PM at Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sacramento, with Bro. John Butler officiating. Burial in Sacramento Methodist Cemetery.
