Bernie ‘Bill’ Whitmer Published: Saturday, October 31, 2009 12:17 AM CDT CENTRAL CITY — Bernie Bill Whitmer, 82, of 711 E. Morehead St., Central City, died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born July 24, 1927, in Muhlenberg County. He was the former co-owner of Broadway Jewelry and a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Whitmer was a member of Central City Masonic Lodge No. 673, Jeweler’s Guild and Watch Maker Association, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Coal Duster’s Square Dance Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie D. and Pronie Whitmer; a brother, Joe Warren Whitmer; and a sister, Katherine Crichton. Survivors include his wife, Hallie Hancock Whitmer of Central City; a son, Robert and wife Frances Whitmer of Central City; a daughter, Bernida and husband Tom Belcher of Hopkinsville; grandchildren Allison and husband Bruce Beene, Andrea and husband Teddy Foster, Nathan and wife Jody Whitmer and Evan Whitmer; great-grandchildren Daniel Beene, Kelsey Beene, Bethany Whitmer and Levi Whitmer; and a sister-in-law, Donna Whitmer of Central City. Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
