CENTRAL CITY – Barbara Nell Segers, age 78, of Central City, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 11:38PM at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Barbara was born on December 26, 1945, in Muhlenberg County to the late Joe Edison and Zella Piper Avery. She was a homemaker who loved her family and her community. She was known for her beautiful voice singing Loretta Lynn songs, her huge garden, and her famous pickles. Barbara loved to cook, garden, and sing. Most of all, she loved her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and siblings. To know Barbara was to love her, and to know that she loved you.
Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, John Segers; parents, Joe Edison and Zella Piper Avery; sisters, Ollie Mosby and Jonell Hamby; and brothers, Joe Avery, Jr., William “Bill” Avery, Lloyd Avery, and Jimmie Avery.
She is survived by her children, Timmy (Tammy) Segers and Lorie (Darren) Piper, both of Nelson Creek; grandchildren, Emily (Justin) O’Neal, Kacey Huff, and Alesha Luckett; great-grandchildren, Paisley O’Neal, Autumn Decker, and Ryann Paige Decker; step-grandchildren, Madison Piper and Cameron Piper; brothers, Bobby Avery, Larry Avery, Donnie Avery, Richard Avery, and Charlie Avery; and sisters, Margaret Rector and Loretta Everett.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 2:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Jared Baker officiating. Burial in Nelson Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday after 10:00AM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
