Andre Louis Hawes BREMEN — Andre Louis Hawes, 83, of Bremen died 8:17 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at home after a brief illness. Andre was born on Oct. 5, 1926, in Muhlenberg County, the son of Roy and Laura Hawes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Hawes; and three wives, Edith Hawes, Helen Hawes and Elaine Hawes. Andre was a 60-year member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee and deacon. He was a retired engineer on the Illinois Central Railroad and past master of Bremen Masonic Lodge No. 596, from where in 2009 he received his 60-year pin. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of almost four years, Ella Hawes; a son, Andre L. (Mary) Hawes II of Bremen; three daughters, Mary Fields of Central City, JoAnn (Brian) Whitaker of Bremen and Vanessa (David) Rule of Pembroke; nine grandchildren, Corey Fields, Natalie Whitaker, Natasha Newman, Ashley Whitaker, Erin Travis, Andrea Rule, Megan Whitaker, Jessica Rule and Andre Louis Hawes III; six great-grandchildren; 25 stepgrandchildren; a stepson, the late Chester Geary; a stepson, Norman (Beverly) Divine; stepdaughters Monna (Don) Hayes, Linda (Doug) Heltsley, Nedra Divine, Kay (David) LeGrand, Marilyn Hinkle, Karen Matters and Lisa Harris; a brother, John (Lois) Hawes of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Novella (Joe) Harrison of Louisville, Carol (Gus) Mattingly of Hardinsburg and Sue Walker of Tulsa, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews. Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Bursztynski officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:30 to 9 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Masonic services at 6 p.m. Mr. Hawes will lie in state at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
