Alva Sherman ‘Pete’ Harris CENTRAL CITY — Alva Sherman “Pete” Harris, 71, of Central City died at 11:25 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at his home. He was born Jan. 22, 1938, in Gibson County, Ind., and was owner of Coal Electric Service Inc. and owned and trained thorobred race horses. He was preceded in death by sisters Lois Joel, Alta Harris, Irma Strickland and Darlene Fruedenburg; and brothers William Harris, Thurman (Junior) Harris, Tom Harris, Jack Harris and Jerry Harris. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Barbara Hunter Harris of Central City; a son, Toby (Melissa) Harris of Powderly; daughters Jeannette (Stan) Campbell of Central City, Edie (Kenneth) Simpson of Franklin; Dee Ann (Phillip) Grise of Hopkinsville; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, George Harris of Oakland City, Ind.; and sisters Ruth Aigner of Lynville, Ind., and Judy Parke of Oakland City. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City with the Rev. Bill Bursztynski officiating. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
