BROWDER – Shelby “Railroader” Lee Whitmer, 87, of Browder, died Monday, February 26, 2018, at 2:03PM at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Mr. Whitmer was born November 10, 1930, in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired coal miner, and a member of Maple Grove General Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Nellie Whitmer; granddaughter Amanda Whitmer; and great-grandson Brock Revo. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Pogue Whitmer of Browder; sons Jerry Wayne (Sharon) Whitmer of Browder and Ricky Lee (Angie) Whitmer of Central City; daughter Doris Ann (Jerry) Knight of Greenville; grandchildren Craig (Jaime) Hardison, Ricky Scott (Andrea) Whitmer, Phillip Whitmer, and Jennifer Whitmer; great-grandchildren Jayden Whitmer, Carter Whitmer, RaLeigh Whitmer, Trevor Whitmer, Shanna McPherson, and Baby Callen Hardison; brothers Hobert (Fifi) Whitmer of Virginia and Charles (Jackie) Whitmer of Louisville; and sisters Margie Stuart and Barbara (Gary) Wooden, both of Louisville. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 11:00AM at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Francis officiating. Burial in Old Jackson Cemetery.
