CENTRAL CITY – Roger Lane Mitchell, 75, of Central City, died on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville where he was born on October 10, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents Otha and Aline Mitchell; brother Lindell Mitchell; sister Norma Jean Pentecost; and wife Jane Carol Young Mitchell.
He is survived by his children Jeff (Lisa) Mitchell, Kevin (Katie) Mitchell; Grandchildren Devin (Annie), Fionna Sage, and Claire; Great-grandchild Walker and one on the way. Roger loved his nieces and nephews David (deceased), Tiffany (Tim), Darrel “Buddy” (Tammy), Angie, Teresa, Chris (Sean), Robin (Vicky), Susan (Tommy) (both deceased), Scott (deceased), as well as several grand nieces and nephews.
Roger is an alum of Hughes-Kirkpatrick High School, a retired Boilermaker, and a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church. He actively maintained the historic Harry Young Cemetery. Each spring Roger planted a garden and shared everything from hot peppers to corn. He’s the official family Grill Master. Roger is the “Mr. Fix It” for many. There wasn’t anything he could not build, repair, or invent. He was most at home with his tools in the garage, out in the field on the tractor, riding his bikes, or fishing with Charles. Roger was blessed by wonderful friends, neighbors, and family who often visited him to which we will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mount Zion Harry Young Cemetery fund in Roger’s memory sent to 198 State Rt. 604, Central City, KY 42330. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 5-8PM with Boilermaker rights being at 6PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, Kentucky with Bro. Scott Casebier officiating. Burial in Mount Zion Cemetery.
