Coach Oliver! I've missed you for ages. Thank you for being there for me as a mentor during the hardest time of my life. You helped me keep myself together, taught me it was important to be myself no matter what, to push through anything that gets in the way of my happiness and I've never forgotten it in the 18 years that have passed since. You're one of the greatest people I've ever had in my life. Love you man ?

Mr Oliver was the best teacher I’ve ever had. He understood the things his students were going though and always had compassion. He always listened when anyone had problems and would give the greatest advice. The best memories I have of him are the days he would throw us pankcake parties. He would have the biggest smile on his face cooking the whole class pankcakes. We’d listen to music, talk and laugh. He would tell me stories of when he worked at McDonald’s and claimed that’s why his pancakes were the best. He impacted so many students and is so so loved. Rest in paradise coach Oliver <3

Phillip was a great person. Always kind smiling uplifting encouraging and he loved everyone. He was a role model to both my children. Lane loved him and looked up to him as he coached him and was a light to him. Phillip always strifes to make our kids feel better. Candice thought he was wonderful. We were all praying for him and the family. But now he has his own team of kids in heaven. He is not sick or worried and he is and will always be remember as coach Oliver. Thank you for being so good to my kids. Love Gina

There are so many stories that I could tell about Philip. He was an amazing teacher and co-worker. When he retired, I missed him walking up to me, putting one arm around me, and giving me a “side hug” that he referred to as a “church hug.” He had the greatest compliments; it usually sounded something like, “Hey, Pate. You look like a girl today.” He could always make me laugh. I remember sitting at the lunch table with him when he saved a student’s life. I had my back turned to the kid and Philip saw him walking up to our table and immediately recognized that the young man was choking. Philip got up calmly, walked to the kid, and gave him the Heimlich Maneuver. A piece of food shot from the kid’s mouth, and the entire lunchroom erupted into applause. Philip simply walked back to the staff table and finished the story he was telling before the incident while the rest of us sat there in shock. All in a day’s work for him. To his kids- He was so proud of you. He talked about Gatton, he talked about college, he talked about your spouses, he talked about football, and he talked about your jobs. He talked about how smart you all are. He once told me a story about someone he knew whose kids were idiots. Lol. He said, that’s what happens when you marry an idiot. He was so proud of you, Kim, and often said you were the best decision he ever made. I often wondered how you put up with his shenanigans, but I know there was always laughter in that house. You all are in my prayers.

Dalton and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Philip was the kind of man who impacted you for a lifetime! I worked with him for a short time but think about him daily and laugh about something we talked about or shared as we talked about work! He loved kids, family and God! Everything he did showed this love. I am so very thankful for the time I got to spend working and knowing this incredible man. I am glad he is home with GOD! Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you deal with this horrible loss!

mr. Oliver, had the biggest heart out of anybody I’ve ever met. Mr. Oliver was my math teacher at Daviess County high school, he push me to do some incredible things in life it made me realize you don’t always have to put in so much effort to do things and get them right. Id sit in class with him every single day, and not one day did he not put a smile on my face. he always told me that when I get older he knew that my job was to work with special needs, and now that I know he is gone he is not wrong whatsoever and everything Mr. Oliver omce told me was forever the truth. he is so amazing and I pray for his family and the grand children and especially his wife Kim. Me and Oliver would sit in class just about every day and have a conversation about Kim and how much he loved Kim and how he was with Kim since he was in high school, Kim was his high school sweetheart and I could tell you he loved her more than anything he could ever imagine. I don’t know all of his kids but I do know He was very proud of Dalton. and he always show me pictures of his grandchild staying the night with him:) not a lot of people get close with teachers and not a lot of kids or students can tell teachers everything but Mr. Oliver was one person I could trust and one person that help me through just about anything I needed between school work and home issues and what was going on otherwise! thank you Coach for being the person you are? i love you - patience sprague

It saddens me to hear about coach's death, but it breaks my heart to see his picture on here, but I know he loved God. Philip Oliver taught me how to play football. He gave advice on life and I use what he said still to this day. He was a happy guy through out all my years of knowing and seeing him. Coach you are deeply missed, for the family I know this hurts and words can't comfort for the loss of a father and husband, but there is a promise that the Lord said the we will see him again. So sorry for the loss of coach Oliver. I give y'all my deepest condolences.

Coach Oliver was the most memorable teacher, his ability to reach the toughest student was astounding. He wasn’t afraid to get our attention. He’d beam candy across the room, wake a sleeping student with the grace of a Bull, tell embarrassing stories about his kids, and spit out the window with the greatest of ease. If you were blessed to know him in any capacity, you never forgot him. I pray God’s peace over his family and friends in the time to come, for grief is like the waves on the ocean. Some are strong and knock the wind out of you, others are calm and peaceful leaving a memory rolling down cheek.
