DRAKESBORO – Melva Elaine Pendley, age 60, of Drakesboro, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at 12:40PM after a courageous battle with cancer. Melva was born on December 29, 1959, in Greenville, to Melvin and Ruby Gaines. She graduated from Drakesboro High School in 1977, was a member of Riverside Missionary Baptist Church, a former beautician, recently retired Office Manager for the Muhlenberg County Water District in Greenville, a loving mother to her children, and “Mammy” to all of her grandchildren who adored her. Melva was happily married to her “honey duck” Leonard Pendley who fought the battle with her until the end. Melva is survived by her husband Leonard Pendley; her children Darci (Jeremy) Wester and Spencer (Kristen) Owens; six grandchildren, Chandler, Carys, Owen, Boston, Brantson, and Baylor; her mother, Ruby Gaines Johnson; and brothers and sisters Reda (Scott) Casebier, Alton (Lisa) Gaines, and Rodney (Meredith) Gaines. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Gaines; and brother, Victor Gaines. When Melva and Leonard were not off cruising around in an airplane, she loved having a home full of her grandbabies. She was a loving, compassionate, bright, puzzle solving, make-up obsessed, shoe hoarding, jewelry wearing, wife, momma, mammy, sister, aunt, and daughter that will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be Friday, July 3, 2020, at 11:00AM at Riverside Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Scott Casebier officiating, assisted by Bro. Greg Brooks. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday after 5:00PM at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to attend. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Riverside Missionary Baptist Church.
