GREENVILLE – Mabel Caskey Cary, 92, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, July 24, 2014. Mabel, a native of Greenville, was born on April 9, 1922, one of eight children to the late Charlie and Willie Moore Caskey. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Drake Cary; brothers Carly, Melvin, and James Caskey; sisters Judy Caskey, Millie Contreras, and Katie McKinney; a son-in-law, Gary Davis; and a grandson, Kevin Cary. Mabel attended the former Graham High School. She married her husband, Drake, in June 1940, whom she lost too soon in 1981. She worked in several businesses as a seamstress and bookkeeper. However, her most loved career was farming and being a “Maw Maw”. She chauffeured her grandchildren, taught Sunday School, and started playing golf at 63. Her greatest accomplishment came at the age of 70 when she received her GED. In the same year she became the oldest student to take her first piano lessons. She loved her church and singing in the choir at the Lead Hill Methodist Church, where she attended for over 74 years. Her loving spirit and determination will be missed by all that came in contact with her. She is survived by her three children, L.D. Cary (Janey) of Owensboro, Ron Cary (Brenda) and Sandy Davis, all of Greenville; her grandchildren, Jill Taylor (Bruce) of Madisonville, Paige Drew of Augusta, GA, Drake Cary (Tiffany) of Orlando, FL, Keith Cary (Rachel) of Brooklyn, NY, Kristina Rice (Andrew) of Bowling Green, Cary Davis (Shari) of Greenville, Gretchen Cox (Doug) of Gallatin, TN, and Tracy Wells (Clark) of Indianapolis, IN; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; loving sisters Ruthie Daniels of Garden Grove, CA and Marie Vevers of Florence, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 27, 2014, at 2:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Wayne Thomas officiating. Burial in Lone Star Cemetery.
