MADISONVILLE – James Edward “Bud, Jim” Harris, 71, of Madisonville, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 3:47PM at Baptist Health in Madisonville. Mr. Harris was born March 27, 1943, in Browder. He was a retired school teacher and U.S. Air Force veteran. Mr. Harris graduated from Hughes-Kirk High School in 1961, and graduated from Murray State University with certification of Rank I in School Administration. After graduation he worked one year for Inland Steel Co. in E. Chicago, IN, and entered the Air Force in 1963. After basic training he served at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL, 6146 Air Force Advisory Gp in Seoul, Korea, and the 34th North American Defense Command in Battle Creek, MI. He was an Administrative Specialist and obtained the rank of SSGT(E-5). He taught at Bremen Elementary, DOD Schools in Tokyo, Japan, and retired from W. Broadway Elementary School in Madisonville in 2000. He also substituted for the Hillsborough District School in Tampa, FL. He was a lifetime member of SDEA-R, KEA-R, and NEA-Retired. He served in various positions at the local, state, and national educational organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elanor and O.J. “Mutt” Harris. Survivors include his sisters, Ima Jewell Faught of Owensboro and Martha Lou Gray of Central City; seven nieces; six nephews; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 1:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. George Gray officiating, assisted by Bro. Jerry Wayne Whitehouse.
