GREENVILLE – Howard Davis Covington, age 93 died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Mr. Covington was born December 30, 1923 in Greenville and was a member of Greenville Church of Christ. He served on the USS Colorado Battleship during World War II, engaging in many battles at sea. He was a retired coal miner and owner and operator of Pond Creek Coal Company and C&R Coal Company. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Harrison Covington and second wife Anna Reid Covington, brothers James Covington, Gilbert Covington and a stepson John Reid. He is survived by his wife Mary Covington, daughter Jan (Brent) Yonts of Greenville; step children Tony (Susie) Reid of Jeffersonville, IN, and Mark (Amy) Driskill of Greenville, Susan (Mike) Goldston of Central City; grandchildren Emily (Chris) Sparks of New Orleans, LA, Ellen (Dave) Suetholz of Eminence, KY, Harrison Yonts of Hermitage, TN; Step-grandson Sam (Allison) Reid of Jeffersonville, IN; Tommy(Megan)Reid Of Louisville, step-grandchildren Ryan Driskill, Sydnie Driskill, Alex Goldston, Aaron Faith; step-granddaughter Kathy (Eddie) Hunt; great-grandchildren Colson Sparks, Cooper Sparks, Fiona Suetholz, Phoebe Suetholz; step great-grandchildren Charlie and Bennett Reid, and Isobella, Nathaniel, Abigail, and Jonathan Hunt; brother Lester (Rosemary) Covington of Lillian AL, Leonard (Betty) Covington, sisters Ruth Ann Peacock of Springfield, MO and Mae Belle Gifford of London, KY. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:00 PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Bro. Tommy Stovall and Mr. Johnny Kelton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Visitation will be Monday after 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
