CENTRAL CITY – Gilbert Lee Casey, 72, of Central City, passed away April 11, 2014. Gilbert was born to the late Netter and Lola Casey, May 21, 1941, and raised in Central City; he was one of six brothers and two sisters. After serving in the United States Army, active duty for two years and reserves for four, he returned to Central City where he lived the remainder of his life. After the Army his trade was a brick mason, a trade which he shared with several of his brothers, until he retired around 2001. He spent his remaining years as a master craftsman doing what he loved, which was building and creating beautiful pieces of art using wood and imagination. Gilbert was a good man who was loved by many, known for a witty sense of humor, a giver of great wisdom, and a teacher of grace and humility, living his life every day the way he wanted it. Gilbert is survived by one brother, Wayne Casey, two children, Deborah Tauro and Carol Casey, four grandchildren, Kimberly, Christopher, Ryan and Alexandra, as well as six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday April 15, 2014 at the Crossing Holiness Church in Central City conducted by Wendell Flener and Steve Flener, with burial to follow in the Jagoe Cemetery in Central in Central City. Visitation will be after 5:00 PM, Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Mr. Casey will lie in state at the Crossing Holiness Church on Tuesday from 11; 00 AM till funeral time.
