CENTRAL CITY – Charles William “Shack” Joines, 83, of Central City, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 9:37PM. Mr. Joines was born November 16, 1941, in Cleaton. He was of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Hensley; sister, Imo Jean Randolph; and parents, Habary and Nellie Joines.
Mr. Joines considered his best accomplishment to be his family. His friendships were also important to him, and defined who he was. He was always there for his family, attending every party and school program, graduation, and basketball game. He enjoyed listening to country music at the Ryman Auditorium. He worked as a coal miner for Peabody Coal Co., where he was a Face Boss. However, he would tell you the best job he ever had was being a school bus driver. He gave every kid on his school bus a gift and card on their birthdays, and a gift at Christmas. He enjoyed vacationing at Hilton Head, and he also enjoyed attending the Kentucky Derby where he always seemed to be a winner. His family said he lived out the motto “The way you do anything is the way you do everything”.
He is survived by his wife, Gwyn Mabrey Joines; children, Dawn (Tony) Hensley of Greenville, Kellie Joines of Owensboro, Jill Joines of Central City, Kecia (Timmy) Shelton of Greenville, and Darrin (Barbara) Joines of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Whitney (Ronnie) Hensley-Young, Paige (Dalton) Harrell, Adam Joines, and Dylan Joines; great-grandchildren, Nolan Young and Habary Young; and several nieces and nephews.
