CENTRAL CITY – Billy Goff, 81, of Central City, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2020, at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. Billy was born on April 28, 1939, in Muhlenberg County, to Jimmy and Bessie Goff. Billy was a devoted Christian. He had been a Sunday school superintendent, a teacher, and a choir member at Green River Chapel Baptist Church in Central City before relocating to Chattanooga to be closer to his son’s family. Billy worked for the Coca Cola Company, then Kentucky Utilities, before he worked as an electrician for Peabody Coal for 31 years. Growing up after the depression had made Billy become a hardworking man, a devoted and protective husband, father, and grandfather. Billy was never afraid of trying to build or to work on something new. Billy’s famous words to his son: “It is already broken, just try to fix it. If we can’t fix it then we will hire someone professional to do the job.” Billy had inspired his electrical engineer son to be a handy man at heart. Billy enjoyed working on the farm, hunting, fishing, amateur radio, and gardening. Billy loved reading the news on his iPad every morning. Billy was well loved by his family, his neighbors, and his hard- working colleagues from the coal mines. Billy is survived by his wife on 60 years, June Goff; his only child, Mark Bryan Goff (wife Cassandra); his only granddaughter, Blair Goff; and his sisters, Patty Latham and Lucy Rule. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 27, 2020, at 2:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Jewel Martin officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
