EVANSVILLE- Benton Almon Legate, 92, of Evansville died Saturday, July 23, 2022 at his home. Mr. Legate was born in Muhlenberg County on July 7, 1930. He was a painter for Whirlpool in Evansville, a member of United General Baptist Church in Evansville, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Legate loved to draw, ride and fix bicycles, and he taught all of his kids and grandkids how to ride their bikes and drive cars. He enjoyed playing cards and never missed work. Mr. Legate said on numerous occasions, that he “loved his Lord Jesus Christ more than anything”. He is preceded in death by his spouse, Reatha Harper; brother, Mitch Legate; son, Ray Gene Legate.
Survivors include his son, Benton L. Legate of Evansville; daughter, Theresa Robertson of Evansville; grandchildren, Angela Fuquay of Evansville, Alisha (Dylan) Roddy of Evansville; sisters, Evelyn Christy of North Carolina, Dean Nance of Mississippi, Laquita Blair of Louisville, Janis Everhert of Central City; great grandchildren, Courtney, Zander, Dominic, Olivia, Alfie, Finn; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Raymond Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022, beginning at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
