I was sad to see Vern's place go up for sale. By then it was too late to attend his service. I visited him this spring. I used to work for him in the swing shop, and my mother rented the apt. above it when she moved here in 2008. We bonded over singing. Vern had a great voice, loved music and loved to sing Karaoke. He grew a delicious garden every year and roasted corn at my wedding.

I am so sorry to hear of Vernon’s passing. I work for Elders Journey I was his main caregiver. Vernon was one of my favorite patients he definitely was one of a kind. He loved talking about his Mom and kids and serving in Vietnam. I will miss taking care of him he was always very kind and appreciative of everything that I did for him. Fly high my dear friend. Uncle Vernon I loved your since of humor I never will forget seeing you on the news when you were selling. Hand made swings, on the flyer you offered a reward to the person who introduced you to your next wife. I know you loved the Lord, may you rest in peace. Your Niece. Debbie

My father, Vernon, was a thoughtful, loving and very stubborn individual. He was an amazing mechanic, engineer, craftsman and southern cook. I will always cherish our discussions about sports, politics and religion and I will miss him greatly!

Teresa Hodges Vernon was loved by his family his friends and his two sons Mark and Aaron he was proud to serve his country in the states and Vietnam. He had such a passion for life and his passion for making swings and patio furniture and to think it all started with him just wanting to make us a swing. He truly loved his family very very much. He touched lives of every person he met. I really knew nothing about life till I met Vernon and he taught me so many things in life he educated me on so many things that I've used throughout my life we stayed in touch till about a month ago encouraging each other and praying for each other he loved God like no other his Redeemer as was said in the obituary. The many hours that we would sit and talk about all kinds of things I will always cherish those times together. And the fun times we had going to Kentucky to see your family and his precious mother he loved dearly. I've never will forget when we met I was going to go into the National Guard and he happened to be the recruiter at the time when we met we could feel something between us and we continued this relationship for over 10 years. And I had two wonderful stepsons Mark and Aaron who I absolutely love with all I have in me. I will miss you Vernon until we meet again in Paradise one day along with all of our loved ones. God said it's time for you to come home.
