GREENVILLE- Thurman (Jam up) Wright, age 99, was born November 17, 1919 to Tom and Bertha Wright and departed this life for his heavenly home while residing at the Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital on April 27, 2019 at 5:25 PM. He was a lifelong member of Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon, choir director, Sunday school superintendent, youth leader, president of the Brotherhood, Sunday School teacher and many other positions for over seventy years. He was retired from P&M Coal Company where he worked as a pumper and a dragline operator. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Battle of the Bulge. He loved God, his family, his church, his garden, fishing and UK basketball. In his mind every day was a good day to fish. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Lee (Ishey) Wright, and son, Keith Wright, his parents, and brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Elaine (Joe) Lipe of Greenville, KY, Charlotte Duncan of Madisonville, KY and Sue Wright of Cary, NC. Grandchildren, Jeff (Louann) Woodford, Byron (Lisa) Sumner, 1st Sgt. Craig (Ela) Horstman, Matthew (Marianne) Horstman, Allen Courington, Bradley (Jessica) Wright, Nolan (Megan) Wright, Evan (Lauren) Wright, Spencer (Bela) Wright, Linden (Melissa) Lipe, and Teresa Peck; twenty- four great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his faithful caregiver and friend, Karen Garrett and a host of friends at the hospital where he volunteered for many years and where he lived and was cared for the last three years of his life. Thurman loved the Lord and his greatest desire was to know that his children, grandchildren and friends would meet him again one day when this life ended. Funeral services will be held at Duvall’s Chapel Church on Wednesday, May 1, at 11:00AM with Rev. Tony Shanks and Rev. Ken Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville with Military Honors. Visitation will be at the church after 5:00PM at the church on Tuesday, April 30. Tucker Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
