DRAKESBORO – Sandra Kaye Jackson Snodgrass, 79, of Drakesboro, died Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at her residence. She was born on September 21, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio to J.D. and Maurine Jackson. She moved to Browder, in Muhlenberg County where she lived until 1969. She attended Drakesboro School and Western Kentucky University where she received her B.S. and M.A. degrees. Later, she went on to earn a post graduate degree as a reading specialist.
She married Don Snodgrass in 1962. In 1968, she had a daughter, Melissa, and a daughter, Angela Dawn, in 1972. She began teaching in 1963 at Muhlenberg Central. When schools consolidated, she remained in the county system and continued at North Middle until 1998. She held a variety of jobs: 6th and 8th grades, in school tutoring, Title One (helping children who might fall through the cracks), and home bound. After she retired, she taught remedial English at the local community college and supervised incoming student teachers for Murray State.
In addition to her teaching, she volunteered for several organizations: Red Cross, Hospice, Retired Teachers of Muhlenberg Co., and political projects. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Drakesboro where she served her Lord and Savior in many capacities.
She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Snodgrass; one daughter, Angela Hayes of McDonough, Georgia; three grandchildren, Abbey Elizabeth Hayes Crumpler, Jacob Andrew Hayes, and Morgan Elizabeth Maddox; two sisters, Janet Denise Jackson and Alice Jackson Penrod, both of Drakesboro; three nieces, Amy Maureen Jackson, Nikki Wingate, Hilary Penrod Fuller; one nephew, George Ian Jackson Penrod; and one great-granddaughter.
Her daughter, Melissa Martin went on to be with the Lord in June, 2021; and she was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 12:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Bro. Scott Casebier officiating, assisted by Bro. David Cordial. Burial in Memorial Gardens.
