GREENVILLE – Ronnie Dwayne Shemwell, Jr., 52, of Greenville, was born December 8, 1972 in Greenville and died on Wednesday November 5, 2025. Dwayne was a man whose presence could fill a room, not with noise, but with warmth, loyalty, and a quiet strength that those who loved him knew well. Dwayne adored his children, Erin Shemwell and Addison Shemwell, with a devotion that never wavered. They were his pride, his joy, and his greatest accomplishment. Every choice he made and every mile he traveled was driven by his love for them. He also carried a deep affection for his grandmother, Peggy Shemwell, whose influence, and love shaped him throughout his life. Dwayne never forgot where he came from, and he honored his family with the way he lived – steadfast, hardworking, and true to his word. Dwayne had passions that showed the spirit inside him. He took great pride in his 1963 Ford Galaxie 500, a car that wasn’t just metal and wheels to him – it was a memory, a connection to the past, and a symbol of things he cherished. And of course he loved his loyal dogs, Meka and Dudley, who were never just pets, but companions who brought him comfort and joy. Dwayne had a deep love for music, one that went far beyond simply listening. For him, music was a language of its own, a place where he could feel understood without ever speaking a word. Much of Dwayne’s life was spent in the coal mines and on the road working hard and doing what needed to be done, but those who knew him best understood that his happiest moments were found at home. When he wasn’t traveling, Dwayne loved nothing more than spending time with his family, sharing stories, laughing together, and enjoying a good home-cooked meal. That was when he was truly at peace.

Dwayne leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion. He was a father, a son, grandson, a brother, an uncle, and a friend – a man who worked hard for the people he loved. Although his journey on earth has ended, the memories he created – his laughter, his one in a million smile, his lessons, his love, will all live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May we honor him by holding tight to the family he valued so deeply, by loving fiercely as he did, and by cherishing every moment with the ones who matter most. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reavel and Emogene “Jean” Mercer, Wilber and Peggy Shemwell, and Sue Mercer.

He is survived by his children, Addison Shemwell, and Erin Shemwell; parents, Ronnie and Debra Shemwell, and Linda Shemwell; siblings, LaDonna (George) Gray, Christy (Donnie) Dukes, Rachle Martinez, Lonnie (Sarah) Shemwell, Connie (Keith) Leggs, Nandria (Troy) Hampton, Logan Shemwell, Esther Shemwell, Tabatha (Cheike) Loubed, Janae Shemwell, Autumn (Kody) Whitehouse; several nieces and nephews whom he adored; and his dogs, Meka and Dudley.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 10, 2025 at 11AM at Powderly Holiness Church in Powderly with Bro. George Gray officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
