MADISONVILLE – Randall Glen Burden of Madisonville, KY went home to meet Jesus on October 7, 2024, at the age of 79. Randall was born on June 2, 1945 to Stellie Lindsey and Lonnie Burden in Rosine, KY. He was a beacon of joy and intelligence to all who knew him.
His parents instilled in him the values of family and community that he carried all the days of his life.
In his early years he bought a small farm with his brother Kenneth. Later he worked underground in the coal mine near southern Illinois. He was a long distance semi truck driver for several years. He took care of a cattle ranch in Ohio. He returned back to his roots in Kentucky and worked as an EMT for several years and a volunteer fireman at Sacramento, KY for 13 years.
As a young man he rode horses and raised a few of his own. He raced cars at Windy Hollow Speedway near Owensboro, KY.
He even enjoyed doing ceramics. Randall was a bouncer at a night club in Owensboro, KY part time. Randall worked as a tool and die man at Quick Cut Machine Shop and also worked at the chair factory in Livermore. Up until his retirement he was a fabricator and welder at Pond River Steel at Madisonville, KY for 30 years.
He enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets with his wife and traveling down to Kentucky Lake area. He was co-owner of Gemini Enterprise Retail Store at Calhoun where his wife worked.
Randall loved singing and playing guitar in a rock-n-roll band, but most of all his favorite was gospel music.
Before his illness he loved going to mass a Christ the King Catholic Church in Madisonville, KY. He liked doing woodworking in his spare time, planting a garden for fresh produce and even mowing the yard, which most men dread. Randall was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, he even built his own little boat, which he finally had to scrap after springing a leak. He built a lot of small utility trailers to sell for a hobby. He was an excellent dancer and tried to do to a dance once a month. His television viewing was shows about cars and trucks, NASCAR racing was his specialty. He could do plumbing and electrical work and at Christmas time the yard was lit up so bright you could see the glow for blocks. He loved all animals and found a fawn in the bean field, nursed him with a bottle, built him a pen until he grew bigger. He finally took him to an animal reservation to finish his life there.
He was also a singer at karaoke. Randall worked at Lowe’s Aviation Airport as a crop duster, learned to fly planes and helicopters at Sacramento, KY. David Lowe was his instructor.
Randall was converted to the Catholic faith and was a member of Christ the King Church in Madisonville, KY. He loved the Lord and talked about Jesus daily. He watched mass on television when he was unable to go, even in the hospital.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Most of the time when he had family visiting he would get his movie camera out and start taking pictures. He loved visitors.
His friends knew they could always count on him for support, laughter and good company. The memories he created and the love he shared will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him. What a wonderful caring man and husband he was.
Randall was preceded in death by both parents, brothers Dewey, Kenneth and Willard Burden, sister Kathleen Farris, and young brother Leslie. A stepson Thomas P. Chambers of Calhoun, KY.
Randall leaves behind to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Francine Chambers Burden of Madisonville, KY. He has three children; son David Burden of Livermore, daughter Christina Nixon of Selmar, Tenn. And Michele Allhouse of Clarksville, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; 4 step-children, Michele Hoagland, Billy Chambers, Jr., Shawn Chambers, and Jennifer Chambers; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces, Laura Slinker and Sue Owens; and one nephew, Norbert Eckert of St. Michael, Minn.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 5-8PM at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Prayer service will be held at 6:30PM Thursday at the funeral home. On Friday, a Catholic Mass will be said at 12:00 noon at Christ the King Church at Madisonville, KY. Father Steve Hohman officiating. Visitation will be at the church Friday at 11:00AM.
