CHESTERTON, IN – Juanita Powers Ramsey, 97, of Chesterton, IN, formerly of Bremen, KY, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017, in Chesterton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford Ramsey. They were married for 70 years prior to his death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Delores Donley, Margaret Cox, and Helen Cardenas; and her parents Bryon “Barney” and Hallie Powers. Mrs. Ramsey was a student of the bible and enjoyed sharing it with everyone. She was a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. Her family was integral in the building of Powers Chapel Church, donating the land that belonged to her mother, Hallie Powers. Mrs. Ramsey leaves behind one brother, Kenneth “Kenny” (Alberta) Powers of Sacramento; her children, Ramona (Linc) Neihardt and James (Linda) Ramsey, all of Chesterton, IN; four grandchildren Melinda, Danny, Troy, and Tim (Maria); and four great-grandchildren Chad, Grant, Timothy, and Andrew. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 1:00PM at Powers Chapel Church in Bremen, with Rev. J.W. Haire officiating, assisted by Rev. Steve McElvain. Burial in Gish Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday after 11:00AM at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Powers Chapel Church. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
