POWDERLY – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Joyce Lavan Dukes, who left this world on Friday, January 3rd, 2025 at the age of 84. Joyce was surrounded by her loving family at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation, as she peacefully passed. Joyce was born in Muhlenberg County on April 20, 1940.
Joyce married the love of her life, Wayne, on March 23, 1956. Together, they shared 40 loving years of marriage and raised seven children.
Known for her love of her children, grandchildren, bunco, and traveling, Joyce was an exceptional mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. Her hobbies included caregiving, crafting, watching Hallmark movies, cooking, making candy, and sharing her wisdom, and she always brought joy to those fortunate enough to know her.
Welcoming her home in Heaven are her loving husband, Benford Wayne Dukes, her son Keith Wayne Dukes, and her daughter Karen Ann Pierstorff.
Left here to carry on her legacy are her children Sherry (Doug) Thompson, Cathy (Jimmy) Payne, Timmy (Kim) Dukes, Lisa (Scott) Marshall, and Bryan (Katie) Dukes, her daughter-in-law Kimberly Dukes, twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild who will miss her deeply. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave unconditionally.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Bro. Jordan Mallory officiating. Burial will follow in Cessna Cemetery in Powderly.
