CENTRAL CITY – Johnnie Steven Gish, 72, of Central City, passed away after an extended illness on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 4:54AM at Maple Health and Rehab in Greenville. He was born May 4, 1952 in Evansville, Indiana but spent most of his life in Muhlenberg County. Johnnie was known for his hardworking and honest nature. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand. Johnnie was employed at York in Madisonville until it closed and later worked at Vaught’s Furniture as a store manager. He was a CDL driver for several years for Southern States in Island and Greenville, Kentucky. Johnnie graduated from Bremen High School. While in high school he was very active in FFA and continued to have a deep respect for farmers his whole life. Outside of work, Johnnie had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying fishing and boating. Johnnie also loved camping, especially around LBL. He enjoyed attending rodeos and watching old westerns on TV. Johnnie’s generous spirit and steadfast presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.W. Gish and Ramona Gish.
He is survived by his wife, Sherrie; son, Johnnie Steven Gish II; daughters, Kimberly Leap and Amie Swink; grandchildren, Jacob and Jenna Leap; siblings, Kay Thomas, Michael Gish and Barbara Case.
