John ‘Jack’ Collins Spalding 1/7/2009 CENTRAL CITY — John Jack Collins Spalding, 93, of Central City, son of John C. and Elizabeth Spalding, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born April 11, 1915, in Bardstown. Mr. Spalding retired from JJ Newberry in Martinsville, Ind. He managed stores in Kentucky, Missouri, North Dakota and Wisconsin and was a World War II veteran. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Central City, a lifetime member of Martinsville Noon Lions Club and a charter member of Central City Lions Club. Mr. Spalding was holder of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and numerous other Lions Club awards. He was a charter member of St. Martins Knights of Columbus and also a lifetime member of VFW and member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Mitchell Spalding; two brothers, J.W. Spalding and Bill Spalding; and two sisters, Sister Jane Meriam, SCN, and Sister Marie Spalding, OSU. Survivors include two sisters, Catherine Dodson of Evansville and Sister Francis Meriam Spalding of Mount St. Joseph, Maple Mount; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and many great in-laws. Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with Father Ben Luther officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
