GREENVILLE – Mr. John Peveler “Bug” Durall, age 97, of Greenville, passed away at his home on Monday, August 25, 2025 with family by his side. He was the youngest son of William H. and Sally Peveler Durall and grew up with ten older siblings on a farm in New Cypress. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Eubanks Durall. They spent 59 years together making a home in the small community of Luzerne raising four children. J.P. was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he drove the church bus for over three decades. For over 40 years, J.P. was a proud member of the UMWA and worked at River Queen Surface Mine, where his buddies fondly referred to him as “Cat.” He took providing for his family seriously and often worked seven days per week. J.P. was a quiet man of very few words who showed his love with acts of service. He lived by the scripture, “Let us not love in word or speech, but in deed and in truth” (1 John 3: 18), and he exemplified that every day. In retirement, John found joy in small engine repair and lawn care. He was the Luzerne’s go-to repairman and mowed the lawns of nearby homes without being asked. His signature look-overalls and a cap-was as familiar as his quiet generosity. In his last days, he enjoyed the simple things in life like sharing coffee and listening to the Grand Ole Opry with his son-in-law and devoted caregiver, Cary.
J.P. is survived by his four children, Ben (Phyllis) Durall, Keith (Pam) Durall, Scott (Catalina) Durall, and Sharie (Cary) Durall Davis, ten grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Friday, August 29, 2025 at 12PM at Oak Grove Cemetery in Depoy with Bro. Tommy Stovall officiating and burial to follow. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
