DRAKESBORO – Jesse Carroll “Chalkeye” Gibson, 80, of Drakesboro, died Sunday, October 18, 2020, at 5:16AM at Greenville Nursing and Rehab. Mr. Gibson was born November 9, 1939, in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired coal miner and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the UMWA, a Kentucky Colonel, and mayor of Drakesboro for 18 years. He was a long-standing member of Russellville Gospel Tabernacle Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Shelba Jean Gibson; son Jesse “Jay” Gibson II; and step-daughter Beth Harper. He is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Tim) Peay; grandchildren Nick and Zack Peay, and Clay, Alex, Andy, and Lexie Gibson; brother Scottie Gibson; and step-children Pam Rowlett, Lisa Delahoussaye, and Scott Harper. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at 12:00 noon at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home, with Bro. Joel Sumner officiating, assisted by Bro. Michael Sumner. Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday after 10:00AM at the funeral home. Family and friends who are attending the visitation or funeral service are asked to wear a face mask for the safety of all those in attendance, in accordance with the governor’s mandate.
