CENTRAL CITY – Jerry Paul Deason, 79, of Central City, died Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 12:10AM at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.  Mr. Deason was born January 15, 1946, in Muhlenberg County.  He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Deason; mother, Ruthie Marie Deason; sister, Helen Brand; and brother-in-law, Orvil Brand.

He is survived by his wife, Lavonda Pittman Deason; daughters, Lisa (Daniel) Wallace, Jerrah (Scott) Bushroe, and Dana Thornberry; sons, Aaron (Sabrina) Sumner and Rodney Mayes; grandchildren, Norah Szteiter and Jaret Sumner; brother, Forest Deason; sister, Ruth Higgs; and several nieces and nephews.

JP loved his family, his wife, who he called mama and his dogs, Molly and Cody.  Daddy always said “good morning, beautiful” to mama and never wanted for anything. Whatever he needed, mama, his girls or granddaughter got it and he was wholeheartedly cared for until his very last moment. He looked at his girls and special granddaughter with such pride and joy. He knows he had done well raising them.

JP looked forward to visits with his son, Rodney who brought him sweet potatoes and dinner plates from IGA.  He also enjoyed spending time with his daughter Dana and son Aaron.

JP loved landscaping, gardening, canning, his truck and carpentry work. He built many things by hand including the garage he always wanted. He and mama built the garage and painted it Kentucky blue and white inside. He was always piddling around the house and yard, everything had to be neat and in its place. JP loved Kentucky Wildcats Basketball, peanut butter and graham crackers and always had his folded paper towels.

JP was a private in the United States Army. He was well known in Muhlenberg County. In his early years, he was a member of the Central City Jaycees Club, a Central City volunteer fireman, and an owner/operator of Applehouse Market in Central City.  He was also well known for his handy man carpentry of all types, best salesman for Frito-lay and always lending a helping hand.

Lavonda, Lisa and Jerrah want to thank those who helped Daddy navigate this last chapter. We are forever grateful.  Mama and his girls are going to miss their Daddy, their Superman.

Get some rest, Daddy.  We love you so much! Go Big Blue!

Graveside funeral services will be Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 11:00AM at Memorial Gardens in Powderly, with Forest Deason officiating.  Burial to follow.  Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
