Gladys Irene Ward POWDERLY — Gladys Irene Ward, 76, of Powderly died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born Oct. 19, 1932, in Muhlenberg County. She worked at Stafford Coin Laundry in Greenville as an attendant for 17 years and was a member of Mercer Baptist Church. She was a member of Muhlenberg County Homemakers for more than 50 years and a member of Muhlenberg County Quilters Guild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel and Carrie Mathis; granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Ward; great-grandson Jacob Michael McKenney; a sister, Vera Whitehouse; and two brothers, Boyce and Jerry Mathis. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Glen Ward of Powderly; two sons, Randall (RuthAnn) Ward of Central City and Kenneth (Karen) Ward of Greenville; four daughters, Linda (Jerry) Humphrey of Greenville, Glenda (Larry) Browning of Ozawkie, Kan., Donna (Ronnie) Grace of Greenville and Lois (Wayne) Farris of Madisonville; grandchildren Denise Boggess, Kevin Browning, Rhonda Cooper, Connie Brown, Amelia McKenney, Matthew Browning, Jeremy Grace, Brian Ward, Jake Ward, Reva Ward and Jaclyn Ward; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ima Cecil Knight of Highland. Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
