CENTRAL CITY – Geraldine Browning, 73, of Central City, died Friday, July 10, 2020, at 3:45AM at her home. Mrs. Browning was born June 7, 1947, in Muhlenberg County. It’s a rare privilege to share friendship with a parent, to seamlessly blend two kinds of relationships into one. But that’s just what my Mom and I did. We asked one another for advice. We shared similar but unique senses of humor. We relied on one another, and respected who we each were and are. We knew one another’s experiences and learned from them. We’re a team. Mom taught me to empathize with and help others, while paradoxically not taking life too seriously. The dialectic of her joy and suffering were tempered by a sweet spirit. She listened to others, and actually cared what they had to say. Being inexorably curious made her determine never to stop learning. Mom was a ward clerk at Hopkins County Hospital in the 60’s and 70’s. She worked with my Father in the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s, assisting with wiring, insulation, and carpentry jobs. When he was a state certified electrical inspector, she kept his books and scheduled appointments. After Dad died in 1993, Mom took a job at Cal-Maine Foods and worked there until 2008. The strength, wit, intellect, and humility of my Mother are ever present. Mom was and is loved and cherished by so many simply because she showed them kindness without sacrificing her point of view. In this moment of transition, she continues to touch us all, and to make us better human beings. The way she faced the seemingly untenable countless times, with tongue in cheek, is my strength. She’s the reason I can move on to the next chapter of my life, with a renewed faith in its mystery, a diligence invigorated by who she is, and a reminder that we find love through a Higher Power. Thanks Mom. My Mom has already had a private service, however there will be a public celebration of her life in the future, when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
