GREENVILLE – George Douglas “Pete” Johnson, Jr., age 85, of Greenville, died Sunday evening, January 8, 2017, in Greenville. He was born September 24, 1931, in Russellville. His family moved to Drakesboro, where Pete attended Drakesboro High School, and he became a life-long resident of Muhlenberg County. Pete served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict while being assigned to the 519 Military Intelligence Battalion . He retired from the Muhlenberg County Road Department and was a member of Sharon General Baptist Church in Greenville. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Douglas, Sr. and Leila Bradley Johnson; and brothers Billy Roger Johnson and James Lee Johnson. Pete is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wanda Williams Johnson; two sons, Steven (Sharon) Johnson of Owensboro and James “Jamie” (Mary) Johnson of Greenville. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Travis (Rachelle) Johnson, Kaci (Brian) Coomes, Samuel Johnson, and Seth Johnson, all of Owensboro. He is survived by five great-grandchildren: Jayden Johnson, Keelie Johnson, Trevor Coomes, Khloe Coomes, Jax Coomes, and soon to be born Baby Coomes of Owensboro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 1:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Darren Pentecost officiating.
