EBENEZER – Earl Wayne Newman, 80, of Ebenezer, died Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 9:17PM at Creekwood Nursing and Rehab in Russellville. Mr. Newman was born April 7, 1943, in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired coal miner and retired from BTR in Russellville. He was a member of New Paradise Baptist Church, where he was active and served as a deacon as long as his health allowed. He was a 50-year member of Hazel Creek Masonic Lodge, and was a UK fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved fishing, spending time with his family, and eating ice cream. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis McIntosh Newman; and parents, Moody and Woody Newman.
He is survived by his sons, Tony (Lana) Newman and Jeff (Susan) Newman; grandchildren, Sheena (Nathan) Phelps, Mark (Amanda) Bennett, Callie Newman, and Grace Newman; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Wanda Johnson; sisters-in-law, Helen Dukes and Sharon McIntosh; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 30, 2023, at 11:00AM at New Paradise Baptist Church in Greenville, with Bro. Tim Adcock officiating. Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery in Drakesboro. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City and Friday after 9:00AM at New Paradise Baptist Church. Masonic services will be held on Thursday at 6:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Ebenezer Cemetery Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. The family would like to say a special thank you to The Courtyard, where Mr. Newman was a resident for eight years, and to Creekwood Nursing and Rehab, where he was a resident for three years.
