Dovie L. Settle Rickard

March 9, 1929 - June 9, 2017

SACRAMENTO – Dovie L. Settles Rickard passed away Friday morning at 6:20 a.m. at home with her children by her side. Dovie was born March 9, 1929 along with her twin Lovie to Earl and Winnie Settles in Cherry Hill near Central City, Ky. Survivors are an older sister Dorothy Stirsman of Central City and a younger sister Betty Jane Carter of Louisville, Ky. They were raised in Cherry Hill and attended Cherry Hill School. She would tell stories where their dad would take them to school in their wagon or they would walk if the weather was good. Dovie loved sports – Atlanta Braves and Kentucky basketball, volunteered at Senior Center and loved her church Dovie was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Winnie Settles and two sisters Marjorie Earlene and Lovie J. Gish. She was married to Samuel C. (Zeak) Rickard of Sacramento for fifteen years. They had three children Randall C. (Sheila) Rickard, Angie (Larry) Stewart and Terri (Mike) Rickard. She had five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday at 5 p.m. at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento, KY. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday June 12th at Cherry Hill Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Donnie Wilkins and Rev. Wendell Wood. Dovie will lie in state the the church Monday from 9:00 a.m. until funeral time. Burial will be at Cherry Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family ask to donate to Cherry Hill Cemetery Fund. We are so very sorry to hear of Dovie's passing. We worked with together at G. E. in Madisonville, Ky, and she rode to work with us. Dovie was a wonderful person. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and Prayers. God Bless You All.

Miss Dovie was a special & sweet woman. She graduated from Bremen H.S. with my sister in law, Bessie Jean Bullock Daniels. She told me stories about their days in school & made me laugh. I met her at Sacramento Senior Citizens & enjoyed her company so much.
Take comfort from the fact that your Mom, sister & loved one was loved by all who knew her.

Dovie was a great lady and a good friend that I worked with at Cowden's in early 70's. Thinking of her bring back good and happy memories. Sorry for your lose.
