David Lynn Morris

December 15, 1945 - March 29, 2017

GREENVILLE – David Lynn Morris, 71, of Greenville died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Morris was born on December 15, 1945. He was a retired welder for Peabody, loved outdoor activities, working with his hands, welding and oil drilling were his greatest passions. He looked forward to going to the pump and looking to hit the “big one”. He proudly served his country as a member of the 9th infantry division in Vietnam and was a “hero among heroes”. Mr. Morris is preceded in death by his father, Hollis Amon Morris and his mother, Elizabeth Lorene Taylor. Survivors include his children, Ondria (Mark) Revlett of Drakesboro, Chris (Lisa) Morris of Medina, OH, and Sarah (Phalgoon) Shah of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Sierra, Hunter, Presley, Brittany, Brandon, Sofia, Cyrus, Spencer, Willow; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Pasynn; sister, Peggy Taylor of Madisonville; brothers, Joe Morris, Richard “Dickie” Morris; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Dr. Ray England officiating. Burial will be the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Fort Campbell. Visitation will be Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 5:00 PM. Online condolences can be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.

David carried the M-60 machine-gun in 3rd platoon, Delta Company, 6/31st, 9th Infantry Division, Vietnam 1968-69. I was his Platoon Sergeant in 1969. No one was better with the "60", nor was there a braver or more honorable soldier than David. I last saw David at our 2009 3rd platoon reunion in D.C. when we met at the Vietnam Wall to honor our lost 3rd platoon Brothers. David will be sorely missed by all of his 3rd platoon Brothers...we'll see you on the other side my Brother.

Great memories.....Believe me I was no great athlete by any stretch of imagination, but one of the things I remember from playing high school baseball at Greenville H.S. was a member of our team who certainly was a good player. Not only was David a great catcher but more of a great individual person. I remember a smile from him whether we won or lost the game. He made me feel as welcomed a part of our class or team as anyone when I returned to Greenville my last 3 years of High School. He treated everyone that cordial way. You will certainly be missed my friend.
