CENTRAL CITY – Clarence Ray “Buddy” Smith, 88, of Central City, died Monday, September 12, 2022, at 9:25PM at his home. Mr. Smith was born November 17, 1933, in Muhlenberg County to the late Clarence and Zora Smith of Nelson Creek. He was the owner and operator of Nelson Creek Pallet Mill and Saw Mill, and was a logger until 1979. He worked for Peabody Coal Company/Ken Strip Mine from 1979 to 1999, missing only one unexcused day during that time. After retirement, he and his wife Patsy joined with friends and rode a Honda Goldwing motorcycle all over many states for enjoyment. He was a proud member of Nelson Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member. He loved his church family. Buddy and Patsy dated for five years and were married for 66 years. They set an amazing example of a godly marriage.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patsy Joyce Moore Smith; son, Shane Smith; daughter, Delinia and Alan Poenitske; and grandchildren, Kendall Wininger, Kaylee Smith, and Paige, Faith, and Joshua Poenitske. He deeply loved all his family and extended family of many nieces and nephews. He was known by Clarence, Buddy, Bud, PapPooh, and PapPa Buddy. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Donnie Wilkins officiating, assisted by Bro. Jared Baker.
