CENTRAL CITY – Carol Viola Hughes Chinn, 87, of Central City, died on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at her home.  Carol was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 29, 1937.  She grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1955.  She married John Arnold Chinn on November 8, 1958, and they were married for 65 years until his death in December of 2023.  Carol was a generous, funny, kind and giving person who would always place the needs of others before her own.  She cherished her large family, and every year would welcome them all at Easter and Christmas for a huge homemade feast.  Carol was always active, walking several miles a day and gardening.  She had a big soft spot for all living creatures, especially cats and the squirrels in her back yard.  In later years, she was surrounded by her dearest advocates in her husband, daughter, and son-in-law.  She went to be with her best friend and promised partner, John, on November 12, 2024.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, William Whitfield Hughes and Willa Doris Nickerson Hughes; her husband, John Arnold Chinn; her sisters, Elizabeth Shionis, Barbara Connolly, and Doris Solari; and her brother, William Hughes.

She is survived by her daughter, Katy Zero, and her son-in-law, Joseph Zero, whom she truly loved as the son she never had; and her brother, George Hughes of Massachusetts.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 15, 2024, at 12:00 noon at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Adam Bridgeman officiating.  Burial in Fairmount Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday after 10:00AM at the funeral home.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Muhlenberg County Humane Society.  Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
